My Favourite Recipe

Rationale: This task is aimed roughly at Year 8 as an integrated English and Home Economics task. The idea being to develop the students ability to write technically and logically.

What do you need to do:

1. Decide on a favourite recipe. Not necessarily an easy thing to do; just pick something you enjoy and know well if you are struggling to make a decision.

2. Write out your recipe with details of required equipment, ingredients and method.

3. Test your instructions (get someone who doesn't know the recipe to try following them for a bit of feedback). Take some photos along the way, you can use them for the next bit.

4. When you are satisfied with your recipe, create a presentation (slideshow using PowerPoint, Keynote or Impress). Save the file with the name "460616task2[your surname]".

5. Upload the presentation to slideshare.net with appropriate tags including fle and recipe.

6. Create a webpage on pages.google.com with the title "recipe_[your surname]". Your page should introduce the recipe with a bit history and why you like it.

7. Add the slideshare presentation to the page by embedding it using the "edit html" button to add the "embed into your blog" text into the page. To see an example of what it might end up looking like, go to my favourite recipe.

8. Return here and add a link to the page in the comments. That way others can give it a go!

9. Have a think about the task and provide comments about it. A few questions to get you started are:

a. Enjoyment: Did I enjoy the task?

b. New knowledge and ideas: Did I learn anything new, and did I get some new ideas?

c. Applying the learning: Will I use the information and ideas?

d. Effect on results: Do I think that the ideas and information will improve my effectiveness and my results?

10. Go back to eating.

Disclaimer: I am neither an English teacher nor a Home Economics teacher and I am not familiar with the curricula of either. Just thought I'd do something that most folks would be familiar with! And I might be hoping to uncover someone's secret family recipe!
