Rationale: This task is aimed roughly at Year 8 as an integrated English and Home Economics task. The idea being to develop the students ability to write technically and logically.
What do you need to do:
1. Decide on a favourite recipe. Not necessarily an easy thing to do; just pick something you enjoy and know well if you are struggling to make a decision.
2. Write out your recipe with details of required equipment, ingredients and method.
3. Test your instructions (get someone who doesn't know the recipe to try following them for a bit of feedback). Take some photos along the way, you can use them for the next bit.
4. When you are satisfied with your recipe, create a presentation (slideshow using PowerPoint, Keynote or Impress). Save the file with the name "460616task2[your surname]".
5. Upload the presentation to slideshare.net with appropriate tags including fle and recipe.
6. Create a webpage on pages.google.com with the title "recipe_[your surname]". Your page should introduce the recipe with a bit history and why you like it.
7. Add the slideshare presentation to the page by embedding it using the "edit html" button to add the "embed into your blog" text into the page. To see an example of what it might end up looking like, go to my favourite recipe.
8. Return here and add a link to the page in the comments. That way others can give it a go!
9. Have a think about the task and provide comments about it. A few questions to get you started are:
a. Enjoyment: Did I enjoy the task?
b. New knowledge and ideas: Did I learn anything new, and did I get some new ideas?
c. Applying the learning: Will I use the information and ideas?
d. Effect on results: Do I think that the ideas and information will improve my effectiveness and my results?
10. Go back to eating.
Disclaimer: I am neither an English teacher nor a Home Economics teacher and I am not familiar with the curricula of either. Just thought I'd do something that most folks would be familiar with! And I might be hoping to uncover someone's secret family recipe!

Dear Michael,
Here are my reponses to your reflective questions.
A.Enjoyment: Did I enjoy the task?
I really enjoyed this task for a number of reasons.
1) I enjoy cooking.
2) I thought it was a great way of creating a procedural text and feeling like you had an audience (something many procedural texts children at school write lack)
3) The task used a number of social, flexible learning environments.
B. New knowledge and ideas: Did I learn anything new, and did I get some new ideas?
I had never uploaded a slideshow before, so I learnt about Slideshow, and how to use it. I wished more people had done your tasks, so I could get some new recipes.
C. Applying the learning: Will I use the information and ideas?
I think that the ideas used in the task are very transferable to the classroom. I am currently thinking of creating a blog for the parents of my Prep children. As a grade we could create entries onto the web and then allow parents to view the blog and write to the grade/ their child. In my class I make a lot of books using PowerPoint. I usually print them and we read them as a grade and the parents read them. I could defiantly see myself using slideshow as part of the class blog, so that i could upload these books online so parents can read and share them with many family members. (as long as I can make the slideshows relatively private online.)
D. Effect on results: Do I think that the ideas and information will improve my effectiveness and my results?
I think the use of online slideshows could become an effective communication tool. In my case, it would allow me to make a stronger connection between home and school.
Michael I have created my slideshow and uploaded. I have had trouble with the google pages as I don't have a gmail account. Of course you can see my slide show at My Favourite Recipe
You can also read my history of the recipe at my blog Chris' Blog
Thanks I had fun
Chris Gregory
I did enjoy the task. It was engaging and allowed a new way of describing instructions for a task that was not necessarily just writing instructions. It was good to be able to see a visual product published so easily that I had created.
I learnt about uploading PowerPoint onto slideshow, this I had never done before. I have got ideas on creating slideshows and uploading them with my students.
I think that I will try and use this learning in my classes at school. Students have created a powerpoint for me before however have never had the ability to share online before. I think this allows for students to make webpage like publications quickly.
In terms of being able to upload slideshows I think that this has definitely improved my effectiveness. I am unsure whether this has improved my results as I am not really sure which results you are referring to.
Thanks, and good luck for your report
Chris Gregory

Dear Michael,
Finally embedded slideshow in my webpage however now having trouble publishing it! For some reason it won't let me publish, so I've decided to just add a link here to slideshare directly: http://www.slideshare.net/annalise08/460616task2 which hopefully I can activate.
To answer your questions:
1. I enjoyed the task a lot. I think a recipe is a good idea to engage students/people because it’s something everyone can relate to, and it personalises the learning experience.
2.I did learn something new! How to use slideshare and how to start a webpage; however, I seemed to have had a lot of difficulties with the webpage, I think a tutorial would be a good idea! Obviously in class this could be accommodated.
2. I think I could definitely use slideshare in the classroom. The advantage of it is that you could change the level of difficulty according to the demands of the class. My experience so far of Google pages has not been very positive, it has been really slow and doesn’t seem to be doing what it’s meant to. I would probably look for another program.
Cheers,
Anna-Lise
PS Sorry about previous two comments, I have had trouble (amongst other things!) posting comments here, was just doing a test run!
